  • Refugees preparing to welcome hosts to Ukraine

    Mother and daughter Olha and Dasha came to the UK as part of our diocese’s scheme for Ukrainian refugees. They fled after the Russian invasion last year, and have been making a new life in Southsea. They’d love to welcome their hosts, Judy and Andrew Walker, to visit them back in Ukraine, once the war is over. Read more

  • Bishop blesses newly-planted fig tree at nursing home

    The Home of Comfort Nursing Home in Southsea was visited by Rt Rev Dr Jonathan Frost, Bishop of Portsmouth, who planted and blessed a fig tree donated by Hampshire Tree and Garden, replacing another tree that was causing problems. Despite the cold weather, several residents and their families attended the ceremony, which concluded with the bishop sprinkling holy water on the tree and leading everyone in prayers. Read more

  • New Archdeacon of the Meon appointed

    Bishop Jonathan has appointed Canon Kathryn Percival to be the new Archdeacon of the Meon, it was announced today. Kathryn, who is Canon Chancellor and Vice Dean at our cathedral, will be responsible for supporting the ministry of parishes in the Gosport, Fareham, Bishop’s Waltham and Petersfield deaneries.   • Re-dedication of historic Lawrence Monument

    Following its conservation, a century-old work of art monument to Dorothy Marshall Lawrence, the heiress to the Marshall and Snelgrove Department Store fortune, was re-dedicated by the Rev Canon Anthony Hulbert, at a special service held on Sunday 12th March at Andrew’s Church, Meonstoke.     St Michael and All Angels, Chalton was chosen by the Anglican Society for the Welfare of Animals as joint winners of the Animal-Friendly Church Awards for 2022. Read more

  • New priest appointed for Sheet

    The Rev Bruce Deans has been appointed as the new priest-in-charge of Sheet. Bruce, who is currently vicar of St John’s, Fareham, will have an additional deanery role, inspiring others in mission and evangelism. Read more

  • New person to lead Portsmouth’s fastest-growing church

    Bishop Jonathan has appointed the Rev Lewis Dean to be the new rector of Harbour Church, based in Portsmouth. Lewis is currently a curate at Holy Trinity Church, Brompton. He’ll take over the leadership of a church that was originally launched in September 2016, and now welcomes 500 people to four services in three different locations in the city. Read more

  • New parish priest appointed for Liss

    Bishop Jonathan has appointed the Rev Clare Welham to be the new priest-in-charge of Liss. Clare is currently part-time incumbent of the benefice of Ropley, Bishop’s Sutton and West Tisted. Her new role includes some responsibility for Growing Faith around the Petersfield deanery. Read more

  • Larder expands to include church building

    Bishop Jonathan has opened a Little Larder based at St Philip’s Church, Cosham. This aims to provide fresh, affordable food to those who live at the far end of the Highbury Estate. It’s an offshoot of the original Cosham Larder, which began two years ago. The bishop’s visit came as the parish celebrated its second birthday. Read more

  • Actors to stage musical telling life of Jesus

    Worshippers from four parishes and children from a local school are working together to stage a musical that will tell the story of Jesus’s life, death and resurrection. ‘The Miracle’ will be performed at St John’s Church, Locks Heath, over the weekend before Holy Week. Among the actors is Paul Wren, who says he’ll definitely be relying on God as he performs as Jesus. Read more
