    More than 70 people across our diocese have offered to host Ukrainian refugees fleeing the conflict that has seen homes and livelihoods destroyed.   • Church hosts refugee hub helping those in need

    Portsmouth City of Sanctuary runs a weekly Refugee Hub at St Luke’s Church, Southsea, helping those who have come to the UK, fleeing conflict and persecution. Each Monday morning, they help with support and advice in the church hall. Read more

  • Memorial stone dedicated to recall wartime sacrifice

    A new memorial stone has been dedicated on the South Downs Way to recall the sacrifice made by 33 servicemen in the Second World War as they prepared for D-Day. Former and serving military personnel, as well as civic dignitaries and guests, attended the dedication service near Warnford, at which the names of those who died were read out. Read more

  • Churchgoers to welcome Ukrainian refugees into their homes

    Churchgoers across south-east Hampshire and the Isle of Wight will invite refugees from Ukraine to live alongside them. We’re launching a drive to find 50 individuals or families who can host refugees fleeing from the horrific conflict in Ukraine. We’re working with the charity Citizens UK, who can help to link us with refugees in Ukraine, Poland and Moldova. Read more

  • Young people take centre stage at bishop’s installation

    Children and young people took centre stage as the Rt Rev Jonathan Frost was installed as the tenth Bishop of Portsmouth in a colourful and enthralling service in our cathedral. Three separate choirs led worship, while secondary school students led Bishop Jonathan in and out of the cathedral, and presented him with his robes and episcopal insignia. It was a joyful occasion, with around 500 members of our churches, community, civic dignitaries and guests attending. Read more

  • Memorial dedicated at tragic wartime crash site

    A memorial stone will be dedicated in April at the site of a plane crash during the Second World War, which claimed the lives of 33 servicemen. There will be a service on April 4 at the site, near old Winchester Hill in the South Downs. Read more

  • Major donations allow work to be completed on Newport Minster

    Major donations towards the refurbishment of Newport Minster will allow the project to renovate and refurbish the building to be completed. The funding, worth more than £1.5m will allow the minster to be a centre for community, civic and island life. Read more

  • Bishop Jonathan confirmed as tenth Bishop of Portsmouth

    Bishop Jonathan Frost has been confirmed as the tenth Bishop of Portsmouth in a legal ceremony in London. It was part of a service held in St Mary-le-Bow, at which he was given spiritual responsibility for our diocese. The Archbishop of Canterbury also gave Bishop Jonathan a special charge, encouraging him to reach out in mission and service to those within and outside our churches Read more
