Installation of Canon Theologian
Duncan Dormer, chief executive/general secrtary of the Christian mission organisation USPG will be installed as a Canon Theologian during this cathedral service
He said: "I am absolutely delighted to be offered this opportunity to serve the Diocese of Portsmouth as a Canon Theologian at the Cathedral. I believe in a bold, confident and joyful articulation of Christian faith that seeks to address the challenges we all face within our society and God’s world.
"As the General Secretary of USPG, the Anglican globaI mission agency, I am aware of the deep historic and geographical connections between the life of our Church and nation and that of Portsmouth. At USPG, we have the immense privilege of working in close mutual partnership with sisters and brothers across the Anglican Communion in meeting some of the great challenges of our day including the climate emergency, racism, human trafficking and the rise of populist politics. I look forward to serving Jesus Christ through this new role in the life of the diocese and the great ‘Cathedral of the Sea’.
"I am excited about what we can learn about our life together in Jesus Christ through the global Church. With a background in university chaplaincy and teaching and choral music I look forward to the opportunity to serve within the ‘Cathedral of the Sea’ as a Canon Theologian for Portsmouth."
