Haydn’s Creation
The Creation is an oratorio written in 1797 and 1798 by Joseph Haydn, and considered by many to be one of his masterpieces. Performed by the Portsmouth Choral Union with Southern Pro Musica.
- Sunday 17th November
- 7:30pm
- St Mary’s Church, Portsea
PCU has only performed The Creation three times in its 144-year history (as well as two Come and Sing events in 2000 and 2007).
- 1953 May 9th – It was conducted by Berty Bradshaw.
- 1976 April 16th – Jonathan Willcocks was the conductor and Evelyn Barker was the accompanist.
- 2007 November 3rd – Jonathan Willcocks was again the conductor and David Gostick was the accompanist.
This performance will be beautifully brought to life by David Gostick our very talented conductor. It really will be a concert to enjoy – it could be another 20 years before PCU performs it again, so be sure you add the date to your diary!
