Solitude and contemplation are often overlooked aspects of Christian spiritual practice, yet they are part of the ancient roots of Christianity.

For centuries people have sought and found God in the silence and isolation of the desert, particularly in Egypt where the famous sayings of the desert mothers and fathers originate. This course is an opportunity to explore this spiritual landscape and to explore ways in which the thought and practice of our elders in the faith can benefit and enrich our lives and spiritual practice in the world today.

We will look at ways in which we can incorporate patterns and structures into our modern lives to resist unhealthy patterns of living, and how these spiritual practices can help us in relationship with one another and the living environment around us.
