Complaints

Complaints against diocesan staff

We expect the highest standards of our diocesan staff, but we do recognise there may be occasions when we fall short of those standards. We therefore have a policy by which complaints can be made. We aim to resolve them promptly and amicably, but if that's not possible, a formal complaint can also be made. The procedure for how to do this is outlined in the document below.

This policy is not intended to cover safeguarding concerns. If you are concerned that you or someone you know may be the subject of abuse, or you have a concern regarding any other safeguarding issue, please contact our safeguarding team on safeguarding@portsmouth.anglican.org.

Complaints against clergy

We also expect a high standard of integrity and service from our clergy. Mostly that standard is met, but occasionally individual clergy can fall short of what is expected. Any allegations of misconduct will be taken seriously. Some complaints can be dealt with by complaining to the clergy person concerned or to the area dean or archdeacon (click on these links to discover who is area dean or archdeacon in your area). Allegations of more serious misconduct that could result in disciplinary action are handled by the Clergy Discipline Measure (CDM). Click on the link below for details of how to make complaints via the CDM process.
